The ILO crisis response programme has held several events to increase capacity for effective action in crises. Like the programme’s publications, events capitalize on first-hand experience and cover a variety of technical and functional topics. These sessions, of varying length, have taken place around the world. More details can be found on the Training Events page.

In its ongoing activities, the programme has identified certain priority areas for training, in which it is currently preparing and pursuing initiatives:
- An early warning system to identify and analyse socio-political and economic trends that could spark or announce a crisis. Training also focuses on linking such a system to similar ones in other agencies.
- Strategic planning to define the nature and sequencing of required steps for intervention in various situations.
- Active coordination and partnerships to achieve synergies in the ILO and the UN system.
- Resource mobilization and close coordination with donors to ensure rapid resource availability and allocation, benefiting more crisis-affected people.
- An inventory of existing capabilities (instruments, expertise in ILO headquarters departments and field offices, and outside capacities) to permit quick identification of possible ILO contributions in a crisis.
- Rapid data collection and needs assessment methods
- Well-adapted administrative procedures to facilitate urgent action.

The crisis response programme also has several general training priorities:
- Targeted training sessions for specific audiences and institutions. The programme is organizing events for a variety of key players, especially ILO units and workers’ and employers’ organizations, who play a crucial role in crises.
- Inputs to ILO training events not specifically focused on crises.
- Ad-hoc training, such as during ILO missions.
- Inputs to academic training events and courses.
- Distance learning through a CD-ROM currently in preparation.
- Dissemination of a guide for trainers of crisis practitioners.
