Resolution concerning future activities of the ILO

The Tripartite Meeting on Moving to Sustainable Agricultural Development through the Modernization of Agriculture and Employment in a Globalized Economy,

Having met in Geneva from 18 to 22 September 2000,

Observing that ILO activities in the field of agriculture should be guided by the outcomes of this Meeting;

Adopts this twenty-second day of September 2000 the following resolution:

The Tripartite Meeting on Moving to Sustainable Agricultural Development through the Modernization of Agriculture and Employment in a Globalized Economy invites the Governing Body of the ILO:

  1. to allocate the necessary resources for the ILO programme of sectoral activities to facilitate implementation of the Meeting's conclusions and resolutions, taking account of the final report of the Meeting;
  2. to convene as soon as possible the next sectoral meeting for agriculture and to consider putting on the agenda "social dialogue as a means to promote the application of core labour standards"; **
  3. to request the Director-General of the ILO:
    1. to prepare a study on the collective bargaining in agriculture including an assessment of barriers to bargaining and identifying what needs to be done to strengthen the capacity of the social partners to promote collective bargaining;
    2. to call on governments to consult with workers' organizations and employers' organizations when they consider measures to be taken as follow-up to the Tripartite Meeting.

The Tripartite Meeting on Moving to Sustainable Agricultural Development through the Modernization of Agriculture and Employment in a Globalized Economy,

Having met in Geneva from 18 to 22 September 2000,

Observing that ILO activities in the field of agriculture should be guided by the outcomes of this Meeting,

Noting that women both as farmers and farmworkers account for almost half the world's agricultural labour force and are responsible for a great part of the world's food production;

Adopts this twenty-second day of September 2000 the following resolution:

The Tripartite Meeting on Moving to Sustainable Agricultural Development through the Modernization of Agriculture and Employment in a Globalized Economy invites the Governing Body of the ILO:

to continue to implement measures aimed at increasing women's participation in future tripartite meetings.

labour standards for agricultural workers

The Tripartite Meeting on Moving to Sustainable Agricultural Development through the Modernization of Agriculture and Employment in a Globalized Economy,

Having met in Geneva from 18 to 22 September 2000,

Observing that ILO activities in the field of agriculture should be guided by the outcomes of this Meeting;

Adopts this twenty-second day of September 2000 the following resolution:

The Tripartite Meeting on Moving to Sustainable Agricultural Development through the Modernization of Agriculture and Employment in a Globalized Economy invites the Governing Body of the ILO:

to urge all member States to ratify the eight core Conventions and other relevant, up-to-date labour standards concerning the agricultural sector.

The abolition of forced labour: Forced Labour Convention, 1930 (No. 29); Abolition of Forced Labour Convention, 1957 (No. 105). Equality: Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention, 1958 (No. 111); Equal Remuneration Convention, 1951 (No. 100). The elimination of child labour: Minimum Age Convention, 1973 (No. 138); Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999 (No. 182).
