Action Programme (2008-2009)

At its 298th Session (March 2007), the Governing Body of the ILO endorsed the Sectoral Action Programme on Strengthening Social Dialogue in the Utilities Sector (pdf, 115k) to be implemented during 2008-2009 biennium, as a follow up to the ILO Tripartite Meeting on Challenges and Opportunities in the Public Utilities, held in Geneva in 2003.

The overall aim of the Action Programme (AP), to be implemented through 2008-2009, is to assist governments and the social partners in developing joint strategies and actions to extend and improve the efficiency of these fundamental services. The activities under the AP will be held in three countries: Malawi, Nigeria and Peru.

National Meetings (2007)

In Kenya, a two-day national workshop on Social Dialogue in the Water Sector was held in Nairobi on 26–27 November 2007, as a follow-up to the 2003 Tripartite Meeting, and as part of the ILO’s Sectoral Activities Programme. The aim of the workshop was to promote social dialogue in the water sector of Kenya in order to assist in implementing the Decent Work Country Programme and to improve effective delivery of the services. The workshop adopted a set of conclusions and recommendations, available in English.
