Work practices and fundamental rights: towards decent work

In June 1998, the International Labour Conference adopted the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and its Follow-up. The Declaration was a response to the challenges of globalization by introducing a social dimension in the form of certain minimum social ground rules based on shared values. This Declaration refers to the core labour conventions:

• C29 Forced Labour Convention, 1930.
• C87 Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise Convention, 1948.
• C98 Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining Convention, 1949.
  
• C105 Abolition of Forced Labour Convention, 1957.
  
• C111 Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention, 1958.
  
• C138 Minimum Age Convention, 1973.
  

In TCF industries the effective implementation of these principles is a good indicator of the direction to pursue to achieve decent work.
