Occupational Safety
and Health
Work-related injuries have steadily declined in most of the
TE industries through improvements in machinery and related codes of practice
as regards its operation and maintenance. Increased automation in both manufacturing
and assembly operations has also played a positive role. In spite of these improvements,
there is a need, especially in middle- and low-income countries where production
is expanding, to promote compliance with occupational safety and health standards
and codes of practice through incentives at sectoral and enterprise level, as
well as through improvements in inspection capacity. Another key issue is to ensure
adequate training for sound work practices and prevention of occupational hazards,
often through arrangements negotiated between foreign and national companies.
