Recent developments

The ILO organized a Tripartite Meeting on the Employment Impact of Mergers and Acquisitions in the Banking and Financial Services Sector, 5-9 February 2001 on the basis of a background report entitled Employment impact of mergers and acquisitions in the banking and financial services sector. 20 Governments as well as 20 Employers and 20 Worker delegates attended. Participants exchanged views and experiences on the subject matter of the Meeting and adopted conclusions including appropriate policy action to address identified issues of concern. Three resolutions were also adopted: on the establishment of a tripartite mechanism for the financial services sector; concerning improving equality between men and women; and on freedom of association in the sector.
