Social protection in the fishing sector

Fishers, as do all people, have the right to social protection. However, in many countries fishers lack protection, sometimes even when protection is provided to other workers. The ILO aims to fill this gap by working towards the extension of social protection to all fishers. This includes improving working conditions, particularly occupational safety and health, and extending social security coverage.
