Maritime Activities at the ILO

The Maritime sector is comprised of four sub-sectors: shipping, ports, fishing and inland waterways. More detailed information can be found on the webpages of each sub-sector.

Recent Developments

The Ninth Session of the Joint IMO/ILO Ad Hoc Working Group on Liability and Compensation Regarding Claims for Death, Personal Injury and Abandonment of Seafarers will be held at the headquarters of the ILO from 2 - 6 March 2009. The relevant documents available for the Session are now available online.

The final report of the Joint IMO/ILO Ad Hoc Expert Working Group on Liability and Compensation Regarding Claims for Death, Personal Injury and Abandonment of Seafarers (21–-24 July 2008) is now available online (pdf, 325k).

The ILO has produced four posters to promote the most up-to-date maritime international labour standards. Governments, employers' and workers' organizations can request copies from the Sectoral Activities Branch.
