Recent developments

On 14 June 2007, the 96th Session of the International Labour Conference adopted the Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No. 188) and Work in Fishing Recommendation, 2007 (No. 199). Click here for more information.

On 23 February 2006, the 94th International Labour Conference (Maritime) adopted the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006.


  • Seafarers' Identity Documents - The Governing Body, at its 297th session (November 2006) has approved a new list of products(pdf, 64.6k) that can now be identified as meeting the requirements of Convention No. 185 and the ILO SID-0002 standard.




  • New database on reported incidents of abandonment of seafarers
    In agreement with the conclusions of the 6th session of the Joint IMO/ILO ad hoc Expert Working Group on Liability and Compensation regarding Claims for Death, Personal Injury and Abandonment of Seafarers, held in London from 19 to 21 September 2005, the ILO presents a regularly updated and dedicated webpage giving appropriate information on abandoned ships and seafarers.
