Employment

The three forestry subsectors (forestry, wood industries and pulp and paper industries) have very different social and labour characteristics. The structure of the industry varies considerably from country to country. Some forest industries are dominated by large, vertically integrated forestry firms, others are based on small, private forest owners. The State is often a large forest owner. Very different levels of technology are found, from full mechanization to exclusively manual work.
