HIV/AIDS Workplace Policies for the Education Sector
An HIV/AIDS Workplace Policy for the Education Sector in the Caribbean (pdf, 152) and An HIV and AIDS Workplace Policy for the Education Sector in Southern Africa (pdf, 200k) are now available for download. These policies are based on the ILO code of practice on HIV/AIDS and the world of work, adopted by an international tripartite meeting convened by the ILO in 2001, include key concepts and principles of the ILO code of practice, and have been adapted by education practitioners to meet the needs of schools, technical and vocational training sites and universities. ILO and UNESCO jointly developed these policies. They have been modified and validated by representatives of Ministries of Education and Labour, teacher trade unions, private employers and National AIDS Councils/Commissions from Caribbean and Southern African countries during tripartite workshops held in Kingston, Jamaica, 28-30 September 2005 [link: ], and Maputo, Mozambique, 30 November - 2 December 2005. The policies are designed to be additional contributions to the realization of the Education for All (EFA) goals adopted in Dakar, Senegal in 2000, and have been endorsed by the UN Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT) on HIV and AIDS in education
