Education and employment
Gender
Education is increasingly a feminized profession. The overwhelming majority
of teachers in pre-primary, primary and secondary education in most countries
are women. Yet in many sub-Saharan and south Asian countries where girl’s
enrolment is much less than boys, more women teachers are needed to ensure EFA
goals are met. Women teachers are historically under-represented in higher education
and in management positions at many levels. For more information, see the issues
and policy brief, Gender
issues in Education and training: A case of unequal access (2007).
