ILO standards of special interest to rural workers

Many ILO Conventions apply to all workers. These include ILO core labour standards on freedom of association, the right to collective bargaining, non-discrimination, equal pay for men and women workers, the abolition of forced labour (Convention 29 and Convention 105), and the elimination of child labour (Convention 138 and Convention 182).

In addition, a number of ILO Conventions and Recommendations are aimed specifically at agricultural and rural workers. These include the following:

• Rural Workers' Organizations Convention, 1975 (No. 141) and Recommendation No. 149
  
• Minimum Wage Fixing Machinery (Agriculture) Convention, 1951 (No. 99) and Recommendation No. 89 (1951)
  
• Holidays with Pay (Agriculture) Convention, 1952 (No. 101)
  
• Plantations Convention, 1958 (No. 110) and Recommendation No. 110 (1958)
  
• Labour Inspection (Agriculture) Convention, 1969 (No. 129)
  
• Promotion of Cooperatives Recommendation (No. 193)
  
• Tenants and Sharecroppers Recommendation, 1968 (No. 132)
