International Registers:

Living and working conditions of seafarers

Note on the survey and questionnaire

Introduction

In completing the questionnaire:

Kindly take into account both laws, regulations, collective agreements, practice or other measures, citing these where appropriate (the correct paragraph should be mentioned), and attaching copies of the relevant documents dealing with the following areas of shipping labour conditions;

If possible we would appreciate receiving these texts either in English, French or Spanish.

As mentioned above, the questionnaire has been sent to the Ministries of Labour, maritime administrations, shipowners`and seafarers`organizations in the countries with maritime activities. Please, note that the Questionnaire is divided into four parts; Part I contains some general questions; Part II is directed to governments and shipowners` and seafarers` organizations in flag States. Parts I and II should be responded to by all States and shipowners' and seafarers' organizations. Part III should in addition be completed by governments and shipowners` and seafarers` organizations in labour supplying countries. Part IV concerns contact persons. We would like the shipowners`and seafarers`organizations to reply to all relevant questions, and in particular to refer to and provide us with copies of all collective agreements.

In our experience, it is often easier to fill in an electronic version when replying to a questionnaire. Please, call, fax or mail to the address below and we will forward the electronic version of the questionnaire if you would like to receive it. An electronic version of the reply will also help us in examining the questionnaires.

If you would like further information regarding any of these questions, please contact:
