Promotion of Social Dialogue in French Speaking Africa (PRODIAF)
- Phase II
(RAF/04/M02/BEL)
Desk Officer:
CTA:
After a first phase (1998-2003) concluded in December 2003, PRODIAF entered
its second four year phase in January 2004.
In its first phase (1998-2003), PRODIAF was active in 23 African countries.
Its activities included exploratory missions, 21 national studies on the
state of social dialogue and tripartite cooperation, assistance in 26 national
tripartite meetings, assistance in four sub regional tripartite meetings,
and 26 workshops and capacity building.
The structure of the program and the methodology of its activities conform
to the tripartite nature of the ILO and permit the resolution of conflicts
at the enterprise, sectoral, national, and regional (WAEMU, CEMAC and CEPGL)
levels on the basis of equity and social justice.
Its strategy is founded on the political will of governments and the conviction
that social dialogue is the only means to negotiate and conclude agreements
between employers, workers and other organizations representative of civil
society, on important issues such as the social consequences of political,
monetary and economic decisions made at the national and sub regional level.
