The role of the public sector A Central Advisory Committee has been set up under § 6 of the Equal Remuneration Act to advise the Government with regard to increasing employment opportunities for women. Most State Governments and Administrations of Union Territories have set up similar committees. Half of the employees in the Committees must be women. The Central Government may make rules for carrying out the provisions of the Equal Remuneration Act (§ 13). It may also give directions to a state Government concerning the execution of the Act in the state (§ 14). If any difficulty arises in giving effect to the provisions of the Act, the Central Government may, by notification, make any order, not inconsistent with the provisions of the Act, which appears to it to be necessary for the purpose of removing the difficulty (§ 17). |
