Information Workshop for Trade Union Journalists
Geneva, 22 - 23 November 2001

Background
November 22 - 23, ACTRAV is organizing a two day workshop targeting European trade union newspapers.

Given the flood of information journalists have to swallow every day, there is a need to give a more direct and lively understanding of the ILO in general, and ACTRAV in particular. The coverage of ILO activities and ILO policies in the trade union press is often very limited. While trade unions are generally friendly towards ILO policies many journalists do not always know about the actual work of the ILO.

The two day information visit to the ILO will give the trade union journalists the opportunity to provide insight information about the work of ACTRAV and to organize meetings to discuss the strategic objectives of the ILO. The personal contact with the journalists will also give ACTRAV the possibility to establish a network of trade union journalists.

Objectives

  • Achieving better ILO coverage in the trade union press
  • Creating a network of trade union journalists
  • Getting a professional feedback about the current image of the ILO and its publications

Participants
The workshop will be held for English speaking trade union journalists of the leading European trade union newspapers or journals. A second workshop will be organized later for French speaking journalists.
