Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations (CAMFEBA)
Youth Employment and Social Dialogue Project (June 2007 - April 2010)

In Cambodia, young people are 2 to 3 times more likely than adults to find themselves unemployed. A contributing factor to this problem is the mismatch between the demand and the supply of skills in the Cambodian labour market. To help balance this mismatch and provide young people with employability skills training and access to information relating to available job opportunities the Youth Employment and Social Dialogue Project (YEP Project) was launched in June 2007 as the result of a joint initiative between the Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations (CAMFEBA) and the ILO's Bureau for Employers' Activities (ACT/EMP) under the Programme on Social Dialogue funded by the Norwegian Government.
To help meet the aims of the project, an Employment Information Resource Center was created. This Centre provides young people with increased access to employment-related information and is open 6 days a week and is free of charge to those who have joined the Youth Employment Network (YEN). The YEN helps young people build networks with employers and other young people in their search for jobs. Application forms for membership can be downloaded in both the English and Khmer languages from
CAMFEBA's YEP Project website.
The YEP Project website is a fantastic resource available in both the English and Khmer languages that helps connect young people and employers with many other useful services provided by the YEP Project. The website provides links to the Employment Information Resource Center, the Youth Employment Network, Job Vacancies, Employability Skills Training Courses, Upcoming Events, and Useful Links, as well as the ability to download translated ILO Publications and the YEP Newsletter.
In collaboration with the Government, Employers and Trade Unions, the YEP Project was able to successfully conduct the first ever survey in Cambodia on the skills gap in the labour market. This survey was conducted with employers and young people in 5 different cities and provinces in Cambodia. The report on the survey results, Youth and Employment: Bridging the Gap, is available in both the English and Khmer languages on the YEP Project website.
The YEP project was also been running an Employability Skills Training Programme since 2007. This Programme equips young people with the skills employers requested in the skills gap survey with a focus on soft skills such as effective communication skills, presentation skills and how to go about finding a job. As of February 2009, 304 young people have taken part in this training programme.
