Symposium

A three-day global meeting for employers organised by the ILO Bureau for Employers' Activities. Speakers will include leading thinkers and practitioners from business, trade unions, academia, NGOs and the development community.

Sessions on

• Global production systems: trends, prospects and opportunities
  How global production systems contribute to decent work and economic and social development, reduce poverty and build tomorrow's markets.
• Rules of the Game
  The regulatory framework for global business and its impact. Are existing rules adequate, too restrictive or not stringent enough?
• Social and labour standards in the supply chain
  The pros and cons of conditionality: buyer perspective, supplier perspective; costs of conditionality - are there winners and losers?
• The role of business associations
  How can business associations help their members to benefit from global production systems?
• Decent Work in Global Production Systems: The ILO contribution
  An update on what the ILO is doing in relation to global production systems. Participants can dialogue with the officials responsible to find out what the ILO is doing and what it hopes to achieve in relation to global production systems.
