Biographies and writings of Directors-General and other key figures
Two publications are in preparation:
- Edward Phelan and the ILO : the life and views of an international social actor. Writings of the fourth ILO Director-General, Edward Phelan, including a personal memoir and a series of articles. The volume will also include a biographical essay and an introduction by a former Irish Prime Minister.
- Bertus Willem Schaper: Albert Thomas. Thirty years of social reform. Translation into English of Albert Thomas. Trente ans de réformisme social. This major biography of the first Director General of the ILO exists in French and in Dutch but not in English.
Records and careers data base
A systematic data base will be compiled of past senior ILO staff with brief biographies, the posts they have occupied and the main ILO activities and products with which they have been associated.
A similar record will be built of the ILO’s constituents, notably participants in the Governing Body, as well as key figures in the International Labour Conferences, again extending existing archival data bases. These data bases will eventually be accessible through this website.
