MINOR GROUP 724: ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT MECHANICS AND FITTERS
 


    Electrical and electronic equipment mechanics and fitters adjust, install and repair electrical and electronic equipment such as computer hardware, sound and image recording and telecommunications systems, and construct, install and repair electrical lines and joint cables.

    Tasks performed usually include: fitting, adjusting and repairing electrical machinery and equipment; fitting, adjusting, servicing and repairing computer hardware and other electronic products; servicing and repairing radio, television and hi-fi sound equipment; installing, servicing and repairing telegraph and telephone equipment; installing and repairing electrical lines and jointing cables. Supervision of other workers may be included.

    Occupations in this minor group are classified into the following unit groups:

    7241 Electrical mechanics and fitters

    7242 Electronics fitters

    7243 Electronics mechanics and servicers

    7244 Telegraph and telephone installers and servicers

    7245 Electrical line installers, repairers and cable jointers

    Note

    Occupations are classified into Major group 8, Plant and machine operators and assemblers, if the tasks call mainly for experience with and an understanding of the machinery operated and monitored.

    Occupations are classified into Major group 9, Elementary occupations, if the tasks are of a simple and routine nature, mainly entail the use of hand-held tools, some physical effort, little or no previous experience and understanding of the work and limited initiative or judgement.
