6111 FIELD CROP AND VEGETABLE GROWERS
 


    Field crop and vegetable growers plan and carry out the necessary operations to grow and harvest various types of field crops such as wheat and other cereals, rice, beetroot, sugar- cane, ground-nuts, tobacco, reeds or other field crops and potatoes, cabbages or other field vegetables, for sale or delivery on a regular basis to wholesale buyers, marketing organisations or at markets.

    Tasks include -

    (a) determining kinds and amounts of crops to be grown;

    (b) purchasing seeds, fertiliser and other supplies,

    (c) renting or investing in land and land improvements, buildings, working animals, equipment and machinery;

    (d) performing farm operations such as land preparation, sowing, planting, cultivating and harvesting crops and field vegetables;

    (e) storing and carrying out some basic processing of their produce;

    (f) tending working animals and maintaining farm buildings, machinery and equipment;

    (g) delivering or marketing farm products;

    (h) performing related tasks.

    (i) supervising other workers.
