• The 16th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) adopted the following schemes specifically for the classification of occupational injuries:
• according to type of injury
• according to part of body injured
• according to size of enterprise, establishment or local unit

• In accordance with the recommendations of the 16th ICLS, the ILO will develop and disseminate classifications to replace or supplement the existing schemes adopted by the 10th ICLS in 1962 for the variables listed below:


• type of location of the accident
• mode of injury (according to type of accident, scheme adopted by the 10th ICLS)
• material agency of injury (according to agency, scheme adopted by the 10th ICLS)
• place of occurrence
• work process
• specific activity
• deviation
• material agency associated with the specific activity or the deviation

• For injuries due to commuting accidents,the following classification schemes will also be developed and disseminated:


• place of accident
• injured person's mode of transport
• role played by the mode of transport of the injured person
• mode of transport of counterpart
