Visiting Students Programme
The Institute's Visiting Student Programme has been designed with a view to assisting the academic development of graduate and post-graduate students. Applicants should be registered with leading universities and research centres and working towards a higher degree in a field relevant to the work of the Institute. Students selected for the programme will be expected to contribute to an analysis of the social and labour policies from national, regional and global perspectives. They will take part in the Institute and ILO research while making use of facilities at the ILO headquarters and benefiting from the advice and expertise of relevant staff.
Ordinarily, the student interns will be hosted for a period of two to six months. They will work as assistants on various Institute projects where senior staff members of Research and Education Programmes will supervise their work. At the end of the internship, each student will be requested to present the results of his/her work at an internal review forum.
The Institute expects student interns to be pre-selected and sponsored by the University or academic institutions to which they belong.
It is a condition of acceptance that interns have sufficient financial resources to support themselves during the period of internship. A limited number of remunerated internships are available for interns from developing countries, preferentially within the framework of longer-term collaboration agreements with universities and research institutions.
Students wishing to avail themselves of the programme are encouraged to work on projects relevant to the current research activities of the Institute. Detailed information on the current research strategy on the theme of can be found at:
Decent Work and Development - (pdf 200 KB).
Students wishing to avail themselves of the internship programme should send their curriculum vitae along with a 500-word outline of their research project along with a testimonial from their academic institution to:
