Ms. María Angélica Ducci (Chile/Italy) was appointed Executive Director of the Office of the Director-General effective 1 October 2004. Born in 1946, Ms. Ducci graduated in Sociology from the Catholic University, Santiago de Chile in 1970. Prior to joining the ILO, Ms. Ducci was a Researcher with the Labour and Social Development Institute of the Chilean Ministry of Labour and Social Security, where she was subsequently promoted to Deputy-Director. From 1975 to 1979, she worked as specialist in vocational training and employment in a joint ILO/Organization of American States regional technical cooperation project in the Americas, based in the ILO Inter-American Research and Documentation Centre on Vocational Training (CINTERFOR),
in Montevideo, Uruguay. In 1979 Ms. Ducci was appointed as Expert on Vocational Training in ILO/CINTERFOR. In 1991, she was transferred to ILO headquarters in Geneva and promoted to D1 as Special Adviser on Women Workers' Questions. In 1994 she was appointed Chief of the Training Policies and Systems Branch. Appointed Chief of the Bureau of Inter-Organizations Relations in 1998, she was subsequently promoted to D2 as Director of the Bureau for External Relations and Partnerships. From 2003 to the present appointment, she held the position of Director of the Director-General's Office.
