Ms Nada Al-Nashif (Jordan) was appointed at the Assistant Director-General level, with effect from 15 January 2009. Born in 1965, Ms Al-Nashif graduated with a Masters in Public Policy in 1991 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in 1987 from Balliol College, Oxford University. Ms Al-Nashif was appointed Regional Director of the ILO Regional Office for Arab States in Beirut in 2007. She came to the ILO from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) where she last held the position of Chief of the Regional Programme Division, Regional Bureau for Arab States (2005–06). Prior assignments include responsibilities as Deputy Resident Representative, UNDP Lebanon (2000–04); Deputy Director (1997–2000) and Special Assistant to the Administrator (1995–97), Office of the Administrator, UNDP New York; and Programme Officer, then Assistant Resident Representative, UNDP Libyan Arab Jamahiriya (1992–95). Ms Al-Nashif started her professional career as an economic analyst with the National Bank of Kuwait.
