This year's Lomonosov conference was devoted to the ILO 90th Anniversary. In his opening statement Professor Vassily Kolesov, dean of the School of Economics, noted that the history of Moscow State University has been always closely linked with the ILO: he recalled that in 1992 Michel Hansenne, ILO Director General, actively supported the creation of the faculty’s employment and labour department. Martina Lubyova, ILO Subregional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, underlined the role of the School of Economics in promoting Decent Work Agenda among students as future decision makers. The ILO Subregional Director was presented with an anniversary letter on behalf of the School of Economics . For this event the ILO organized an exhibition of its publications. They will supplement the School of Economics library that already contains a rich collection of the ILO books.
Lomonosov readings are well known among the Russian and international academic community. Named after the illustrious Russian scientist, poet and one of the founders of Moscow State University, the conference is held annually at the MSU School of Economics, an active promoter of the ILO’s Decent Work Agenda. Among its most visible initiatives is a roundtable on Decent Work in 21th Century that already back in 2004 opened up a broad national and regional discussion around this important issue.
