ILO Colombo holds public Media Workshop to launch its celebration of 90 years of the ILO

ILO Colombo held a successful Media Workshop on 30 March 2009 to engage with the media on dimensions of social dialogue, decent work in Sri Lanka and globally and the ILO's 90 years in operation. The event was attended by senior journalists from both print and electronic media, with parts of the workshop broadcast over the web and radio. Government was represented by Secretary of Labour Relations and Manpower, Mr. Madihahewa, Employers by Ravi Peiris, Director General EFC, Workers by Mr. Rasedeen, Secretary General of NATURE (representing 19 TUs).

The workshop was opened with a historical outline of ILO over 90 years, major benchmarks in ILO’s history, a presentation by the Employers Federation of Ceylon, the Government and the Trade Unions and an interactive panel discussion with Q's and A's on current relevant core ILO issues in Sri Lanka between the media and the panel.

One of the objectives is to link social partners with the media and encourage them to make interviews with social partner personalities to be featured in the media up to the main event on 28 April.
