Under the current world recession, employment of many workers is threatened. It concerns not only the total number of employment, but it is a crisis of both quality and quantity, including the contents of employment. As we mark the 90th anniversary of the ILO, we look at the current employment situations and discuss what is needed to ensure Decent Work in real term, policy response and the role of employers and workers. At the symposium, we focus on “working people” and discuss the problems from employment and management points of views.
Key messages from the symposium
- We should always aim to realize people-centered economy and society under any changes and crisis.
- We should realize more the importance of employment and workplaces for all working people.
- It is important for us to have mid and long-term perspectives such as career development and human resouces develoment for individuals, and sustainablity for enterprises.
- Stable network of society and enterprises are of great importance.
- Solving problems through constructive social dialogue among tripartite constituents lead great success.
- Decent Work is not only an agenda for Japan, and but a global common agenda.
