Social Security Department (SECSOC)
The Social Security Department, with its long experience in the field of technical cooperation activities, research and policy development on issues dealing with social security, provides ILO member States with tools and advice to achieve and maintain this right for their population.
The Department’s objective is the enhanced capacity of constituents, and particularly social security managers, to design sustainable social security schemes, and to manage and administer them more efficiently, with a view to providing better benefits and extending coverage.
Labour Protection Department (PROTRAV)
The Labour Protection Department covers issues related to the prevention of work-related health problems, the promotion of workers' health and well-being and the improvement of working conditions for all workers. Through these activities, it actively contributes to the achievement of decent work for all. It comprises four units :
- The International Branch on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment (SAFEWORK) aims to place occupational safety and health (OSH) on international and national agendas, and support national efforts to improve OSH systems. The International Occupational Safety and Health Information Centre (CIS) is the knowledge management arm of the ILO Programme on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment (SafeWork). Its goal is to ensure that workers and everyone concerned with their protection have access to the facts they need to prevent occupational injuries and diseases.
- The Conditions of Work and Employment Branch (TRAVAIL) provides analysis and technical assistance to ILO constituents on such issues as wages, working time, work organization, maternity protection and work-life balance.
- The International Migration Branch (MIGRANT) serves as a global knowledge base on all aspects of international labour migration, providing advisory services to member States and technical assistance and capacity-building to constituents.
- The Programme on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work (ILO/AIDS) seeks to raise awareness of the impact of HIV on labour and employment, to support national efforts to control the pandemic and to eliminate discrimination and stigma related to HIV status
