For the 10th time in a row, and in the presence of the ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, the ILO and the European Commission held their annual high-level meeting defining the focus of their cooperation for the next year. At this meeting, Guy Ryder honored the historical partnership between both institutions and looked at the common challenges in the face of the global crisis.

The ILO Global Business and Disability Network: Public-Private Partnership

The ILO has developed a global network of multinational companies, employers’ organizations, and business networks on disability, along with disabled persons’ organizations and other resource groups, to assist companies to include disability in the workplace and in their strategic business plans. The ILO Global Business and Disability Network is a business-led, member-based initiative that fosters the development of a workplace culture that is respectful and inclusive, promoting the hiring, retention and professional development of people with disabilities.

This animated talk describes the role of the ILO and its support for vocational training through worldwide networks and CINTERFOR. For the last 70 years, the ILO has promoted South-South and Triangular Cooperation in vocational training in Latin America and the Caribbean, strengthened by the creation of ILO/Cinterfor 50 years ago, for the social development and economic growth of its countries.

Global South-South Development Forum 2012
The 2012 Global South-South Development Expo in Vienna (Austria) placed the spotlight on Energy and Climate Change. The ILO Solution Forum on Energy, Climate Change and Decent Work (20 November) covered inclusive access to decent work, follow-up to Rio+20, green jobs, social protection and the promotion of workers’ rights in the field of renewable energy and climate change.

The Post-2015 Development Agenda

The ILO is actively involved with the United Nations in support of country processes for defining the so called “post-2015 development framework” that will build on and complement the Millennium Development Goals. These initiatives include the work of the Task Team established by the UN Secretary-General under the leadership of the UN Development Group (UNDG), and the UNDG groups responsible for organizing thematic and national consultations. With UNDP, the ILO convened the first thematic consultation in Tokyo in May 2012, on the subject of “growth and employment”. In its recent discussion of the subject, the ILO Governing Body’s - governments, workers and employers gave a mandate to the ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder, to develop a strategy and provide support for ILO constituents to be fully involved in the agenda-setting processes.

South-South and triangular cooperation: Global South-South Development Expo

The ILO will take part in the Global South-South Development Expo 2012 to be hosted by UNIDO at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria on 19-23 November. The general theme is “Investing in Energy and Climate Change: Inclusive Partnerships for Sustainable Development”. The ILO is organizing a Solutions Forum on the topic of “Energy, Climate Change and Decent Work”.
