The 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly has officially opened, headed by the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande. This year’s high-level week, September 23-27, will bring together world leaders to discuss climate action, the Sustainable Development Goals and key priorities for the remaining decade of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Sunday, 22 September

Just Transition to Enable Ambitious Climate Action

In preparation for the UN Climate Action Summit, various outcomes have been prepared, including a Just Transition Commitment. This side event will be an opportunity to showcase these commitments from both governments and the private sector.

Monday, 23 September

UN Climate Action Summit
10:00 – 18:00, UNHQ
The UN Secretary-General has convened the Climate Action Summit in New York with the objective of boosting ambition and rapidly accelerate action to implement the Paris Agreement.

UN High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage
9:00 – 18:00, UNHQ
The meeting will bring together heads of state, political and health leaders, policy-makers, and universal health coverage champions to advocate for health for all.

Leaders’ Event - Mobilizing Solutions to Shape the Future of Work
15:30 – 17:30, Followed by reception 17:00 – 18:00, Ford Foundation
The event will focus on concrete solutions for creating decent work now and into the future in response to the call to action of the ILO Centenary Declaration on the Future of Work.

The high-level event will showcase the role of public-private partnerships in promoting and facilitating a human-centred agenda with the focus on innovative measures supporting decent jobs for youth.

High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (SDG Summit)

On 24–25 September, world leaders will gather for the SDG Summit to review progress and identify measures to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. 

Wednesday, 25 September

A Global Mandate to End Violence and Harassment in the World of Work: ILO Convention (No.190) and Recommendation (No.206)
8:15 – 9:30, Private Dining Room 1-3, UNHQ
To celebrate and promote the ILO Convention and Recommendation on Violence and Harassment, this breakfast meeting will highlight the powerful messages of the instruments and encourage countries to take steps towards ratification.

High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development

The High-level Dialogue will provide high-level political leadership and guidance on the implementation of the Addis Agenda, the UN framework for mobilizing resources for implementation of the SDGs, identify progress and emerging challenges and mobilize further action to accelerate its implementation. 

Friday, 27 September

High-level meeting to review progress made in addressing the priorities of SIDS through the implementation of the Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA) Pathway
10:00 – 18:00, UNHQ
The General Assembly will hold a one-day high level review of the progress made in addressing the priorities of small island developing States (SIDS) through the implementation of the SAMOA Pathway.
