UNGA74: A Just Transition Partnership to Enable Ambitious Climate Action, 22 September 2019

The Climate Action Summit, taking place on 23 September, is one of the highlights of the opening of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly.

In preparation for the Summit, various outcomes have been prepared, including a Just Transition Commitment. The Commitment will be presented on Sunday, 22 September 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Stakeholders have been invited to commit support to a just ecological transition by formulating national plans that create decent work and green jobs. This side event will be an opportunity to showcase these commitments from both governments and the private sector gathered for the Climate Action Summit.

There will be four discussions under the topics of: “Just Transition from multiple dimensions”, “Just Transition positive examples”, “partnership to support Just Transition in countries”, and “the business responsibility for a just transition”.

  • Mr. Jose Ignacio Sanchez Galan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Iberdrola
The Just Transition Commitments will also be presented during the Climate Action Summit itself, under Theme 10, “People Centered Action Now”.
