Partnering for Action on Green Economy
18 September 2013, 10.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m.,
United Nations Headquarters, New York
Conference Room 5 (NLB)

Context
The Rio+20 Declaration – The Future We Want – recognized a green economy as a vehicle for achieving sustainable development and poverty eradication. It called on the United Nations to support interested countries in creating/promoting/developing greener and more inclusive economies.

In response to this call for action, UNEP, ILO, UNIDO and UNITAR initiated the Partnership for Action on a Green Economy, or PAGE, as a voluntary and demand-driven mechanism of support to meet the increasing requests from countries seeking to develop and implement inclusive green economy strategies.

By harnessing the expertise and resources of the different UN agencies and their partners, PAGE intends to be a conduit for a full range of customized support services -- from social mobilization and capacity development to economic assessment, investment and policy formulation, as well as creating and sharing knowledge.

Objectives
This event, organized in conjunction with the EMG Senior Officials meeting, is intended to provide an informal platform for governments, UN agencies, donors and other stakeholders to share national experiences on recent initiatives and developments towards green economy promotion in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication.

Apart from country updates, this will include a summary of the planned follow-up to key decisions on green economy adopted at the UNEP Governing Council of February 2013 and the conclusions reached on 'Sustainable Development, Decent Work and Green Jobs' at the International Labour Conference in June 2013.
