INFORMAL INTERACTIVE HEARINGS ON
INTERNATIONAL MIGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT

In preparation for the High-level Dialogue (HLD) on International Migration and Development (3 - 4 Oct 2013), one day of informal interactive hearings aims to provide an opportunity for NGOs, civil society organizations and the private sector to interact with Member States and to provide inputs on the overall theme of the HLD to "Identify concrete measures to strengthen coherence and cooperation at all levels, with a view to enhancing the benefits of international migration for migrants and countires alike and its important link to development, while reducing its negative implications."

The one-day informal interactive hearings will commence with opening remarks, followed by an opening panel featuring representatives of civil society as well as Mr. Peter Sutherland, Secretary-General's Special Representative on International Migration and Development. The hearings will also comprise four interactive segments focused on the following themes: (1) migrant labour and mobility; (b) migrant rights and protection; (c) human development and diaspora action; and (d) migration and governance.
