CONNECTING ECONOMY, SOCIETY and ENVIRONMENT
through DECENT WORK
A side event to the Fourth Session of the Open Working Group (OWG)
on Sustaintable Development Goals (SDGs)
Date: 17 June 2013
Time: 6:15pm until 7:30pm
Venue: Meeting Room 4 (North Law Building)
Location: UN Headquarters, New York, United States of America
The transition to more sustainable economic growth patterns will create opportunities but also social and environmental challenges. With the right policies, such transformation can lead to significant opportunities for the creation of new decent jobs in sustainable enterprises, for the upgrading of existing jobs to lift millions out of poverty and for improving livelihoods through access to basic social protection and services in the form of social protection floors.
This event will show case concrete experiences on how countries have implemented policies addressing synergies between the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. In addition, participants will be briefed about the preliminary outcomes of the discussions on Sustainable Development and Decent Work held at the 102nd Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC).
