    In the light of this broadly discussed issue in the Russian society the ILO conducted a seminar on Forced labour, trafficking and irregular migration in the Russian Federation, which took place on May 15-16 2003 in Moscow.

    On 14 May 2003 leading representatives of the Russian business community together with the representatives of UN agencies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior attended a breakfast meeting organized by the ILO on the important issue of Forced Labour.

  3. ILO launched first global report on discrimination at work “Time for Equality at Work”.

    The International Labour Office (ILO) launched its first global report on discrimination at work on 12 May 2003. The new report is entitled “Time for Equality at Work”, and was prepared under the ILO’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work to examine, for the first time, the state of discrimination in the world of work today.

    One of the major events to mark the World day for Safety and Health at Work was the exhibition of the ILO publications on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) at the Russian State (Lenin) Library. It was opened on 28 April in the premises of the Library’s business center.

  4. Working Street Children – Workshop in St. Petersburg.

    On 23 – 24 April 2003 a Workshop Working Street Children and Strategies of Their Withdrawal was carried out in the Smolny. The Project “Comprehensive Model of Rehabilitation of Working Street Girls” implemented in the framework of the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) of the International Labour Organization (ILO) served as an illustration of possible strategies of tackling the problem.
