Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan appointed Labour and Social Affairs Minister of Armenia

On November 23, Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan appointed Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan as the Republic’s Labour and Social Affairs Minister.

Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan was born in Armenia’s city of Sevan in 1950. In 1972 he graduated from the Yerevan State Medical University and in 1984 – from the Higher School of the USSR Ministry of the Interior.

In 1994 Mnatsakanyan served as administrative director of the International Post-Traumatic Rehabilitation Center of the Red Cross. In 2001 he became the president of the Armenian Red Cross Society.

Since December 2007 he has chaired the permanent parliamentary commission for human rights and public affairs.

Mnatsakanyan holds the Master of Medical Sciences degree. He is an honorary professor of the European University, a member of the Russian Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.

Married with two children.
