The event was organized by the Council of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan with participation of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population, the Ministry of Justice, the Independent Institute for Monitoring the Formation of Civil Society, the National Association of Non-Profit Organizations, the ILO and UNDP.

Taking part in the conference were parliamentarians, representatives of state and non-profit organizations, experts of the ILO, the International Confederation of Trade Unions, heads of offices of international organizations accredited in Uzbekistan (UNDP, EU, OSCE, UNICEF, Friedrich Ebert Foundation), international experts from Germany, Denmark, Georgia, China, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, France and journalists.

At the conference representatives of international organizations and foreign trade union centres highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s experience in ensuring citizens’ rights to decent working conditions. In particular, international experts praised Uzbekistan’s high results in expanding employment opportunities, improving social protection system and strengthening social dialogue.

They also praised tripartite social dialogue among the Uzbek government, trade unions and employers that gained acceptance as an effective mechanism for the development and implementation of labour, employment and social protection policy. Trade unions help implement the ILO’s conventions through instruments of collective bargaining between workers and employers.

After a plenary session the conference continued its work in four sections: “Promotion of international labour standards and improvement of national legislation to implement fundamental labour rights”, “Ensuring favorable and safe working conditions and expanding social protection”, “Expanding opportunities for decent employment and remuneration” and “Public control and social partnership in ensuring guarantees of rights to decent work”.
