About the ILO in the Republic of Tajikistan

Tajikistan has joined the International Labour Organization on September 9, 1993. The country has ratified 50 ILO Conventions, including eight fundamental Conventions.

The ILO Decent Work Technical Support and Country Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia coordinates the ILO activities in Tajikistan. The DWT/CO covers ten countries – Tajikistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

In Dushanbe, Tajikistan, the ILO has established a National Coordinator’s Office.

TheILO cooperates with the Republic of Tajikistan on a wide range of issues, including: strengthening capacities of tripartite constituents to address priority labour issues, reform wage systems and wage policies through social dialogue; elimination of the worst forms of child labour; formalization of informal economy;  increasing decent employment opportunities for men and women, including youth and returning labour migrants; Improving working conditions and enhancing the coverage of social protection; improving OSH national systems and modernizing labour inspection.

Since 2007, the ILO’s projects and activities in Tajikistan have been conducted within the framework of the Decent Work Country Programmes. In June 2015, the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Union of Employers, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions and the ILO signed a Decent Work Country Programme for 2015-2017. The Programme is based on the national priorities of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of labour market, employment and social protection and is aimed at the sustainable socio-economic development of the country, through regulation of labour relations in line with international labour standards, stimulation of productive employment, insurance of social protection of population and strengthening social dialogue. The DWCP is also based on the key priorities of the UN Development Assistance Framework for Tajikistan.
