  1. Training for Trade Unions in International and National Labour Migration Regimes and Policy Frameworks

    On the 15 June 2013, the Labour Migration Project, conducted a day-long training in International and National Labour Migration Regimes and Policy Frameworks for the trade union members of the National Coordination Committee for Worker’s Education (NCCWE)

  1. Stakeholder consultation on revision of the Overseas Employment Policy 2006

    15 May 2013, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    The first stakeholder consultation to revise the Overseas Employment Policy took place on 15 May 2013 at the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment and was attended by about 65 representatives from civil society organizations, academic experts, workers’ and employer’s organizations.

  2. Labour Migration Academy - Facilitating Good Governance, Enhancing Protection and Promoting Development

    6 - 17 May 2013, Turin, Italy

    The Academy on Labour Migration reviews and analyses key issues, strategies, policies and tools for governing international labour migration, linking migration and development and protecting migrant workers and their families.

  3. Migrant Workers' Rights and the May Day 2013

    On the 1st of May 2013, ie, on the occasion of the Labour Day, the NCCWE members advocated for the recognition of the rights of the migrant workers.

  1. Orientation Workshop for Dhaka Ahsania Mission Project Staff and Management

    12 March 2013, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    ILO executed Labour Migration project supported Dhaka Ahsania Mission conduct an Orientation Workshop to familiarize project staff and management with the implementation approach and methodology for implementing a pilot initiative to give top-up technical training and impart life skills and pre-departure information to equip the Bangladeshi workers who have made a decision to migrate for work in another country and to support left behind families of the migrant workers.

  2. ILO Labour Migration Project office inaugurated on 11 March 2013

    11 March 2013, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    The ILO Labour Migration Project office was jointly inaugurated on 11 March 2013 by the Honorable Minister of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment (MEWOE) and the Director-General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in the Ministry premises in the Probashi Kalyan Bhaban.

  3. Migrant Domestic Workers in Europe Photo Contest

    11 March - 30 April 2013, Europe

    The International Migration Programme of the ILO is organizing a photo contest in order to explore and to showcase the important and positive contributions that migrant domestic workers in Europe make to the societies they live in. This contest has been organized in the context of the ILO project ‘Promoting Integration for Migrant Domestic Workers in Europe’, with the financial support of the European Integration Fund.

  1. Consultation with BMET for Comprehensive System's Review by the Labour Migration Project

    20 February 2013, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    A Comprehensive Systems Review (CSR) of the Bangladesh Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) and the Wage Earners’ Welfare Fund (WEWF) is planned by the Ministry of Expatiates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment (MEWOE) under the Labour Migration Project, namely, “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh”, executed by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The review is to identify the strengths, good practices and possible areas for improvement. To begin the process in a participatory manner, the ILO's Project Management Team held a consultation with the senior officials of the BMET in Dhaka.

  2. The 2nd Project Steering committee (PSC) Meeting of the Labour Migration Project in Bangladesh

    14 February 2013, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    The 2nd Project Steering committee (PSC) Meeting of the project titled “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh” Executed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Held on Thursday 14 Feb 2013 at the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment in Dhaka. The PSC members used the opportunity to review the project progress and gave approval for the planned implementation actions.

  3. Building Knowledge-base and Promoting Rights of the Bangladesh Workers on the Move

    6 February 2013, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    A Tripartite Workshop titled "Building Knowledge-base and Promoting Rights of the Bangladesh Workers on the Move" co-organized by the Human Development Research Centre (HDRC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Dhaka. The workshop included a wide range of stakeholders representing private and public sector banks, civil society organizations, migrant workers associations, international organizations, media and the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment (MEWOE). The workshop was conducted in order to gather information and exchange experiences to inform five comprehensive studies on international labour migration from Bangladesh.

  1. Tripartite Meeting on ILO Code of Practice

    30 September 2012, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    The ILO’s Project on Promoting Gender Equality and Preventing Violence against Women at Workplace supported by the Government of Bangladesh organized a “Tripartite Meeting on ILO Code of Practice – Workplace Violence in Service Sectors and Measures to Combat This Phenomenon” on 30 September 2012 at the Conference Hall of the Chamber Building in Dhaka. Government officials, representatives from different trade unions and employers‟ associations attended the meeting and shared their views about the ILO Code of Conduct addressing violence against women at workplaces in Bangladesh perspective.

  2. National level training of trade union representatives on indigenous and tribal peoples’ issues in Bangladesh

    10 September 2012, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    ILO organized a national level training for trade union representatives on ILO C107 and C169 and indigenous and tribal peoples’ (ITPs) issues in Bangladesh on 10th September 2012. 20 representatives from national level trade unions affiliated with National Coordination Committee for Workers Education (NCCWE) and 20 representatives from indigenous and tribal workers’ organizations attended the training.

  3. National level training for government officials on indigenous and tribal peoples’ issues

    8 - 9 September 2012, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    ILO and the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs (MoCHTA) jointly organized a two days long national level training for government officials on UN Human Rights Instruments and national laws concerning indigenous and tribal peoples of Bangladesh. 40 government officers from different line ministries including 12 Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) from the plain land districts participated in the training programme.

  1. Project Steering Committee Meeting of the “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh Project

    5 July 2012, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    The 1st Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting of the project titled “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh” was held under the chairpersonship of Dr. Zafar Ahmed Khan, Secretary, MEWOE on Thursday the 5th of July 2012 at the Conference Room of the MEWOE. The PSC comprises of 18 representatives from the tripartite constituents – Government, Trade Unions, Employers Associations – and other important actors in the area of labour migration, including, the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), who is a donor to this project, migrant workers associations, migration research institutions and other civil society actors.

  1. Situation analysis of Female Migrants and Domestic Workers

    21 June 2012, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    Under the UNJP-VAW programme, the Ministry of Labour and Employment and ILO’s joint project “Promoting Gender Equality and Preventing VAW at Workplace” organized the Workshop on Situation Analysis of Female Migrants and Domestic Workers. The programme was held on June 21, 2012 at the Chamber Building of Bangladesh Employers Federation located in Dhaka.

  2. Letter of Agreement between IOM and ILO for the Project “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh”

    14 June 2012, Dhaka, Bangladesh

    The IOM and ILO signed a letter of agreement to strengthen the implementation of the Project “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh” and specifically to support Improved Migration Management and Services.

  3. TOT on Improving Knowledge on Legal and Safe Labour Migration for Provincial Resource Persons

    4 - 9 June 2012, Hue, Viet Nam

    The aim of the training is to equip provincial resource persons with knowledge about safe and legal migration so they can conduct training for other staff at the provincial, district, commune and village levels. They also will be able to conduct other activities at migrant workers' resource centers in their provinces.
