The Philippines lags behind its Asian neighbours in terms of high infant and child mortality rates. Reducing malnutrition among young children and reducing their mortality rate are national priorities.
Funded by the Government of Spain through the MDG Achievement Fund, ILO with UN agency partners, supports creation of an enabling environment in which communities support breastfeeding and complementary feeding. Through a food security project, the ILO engages national stakeholders including employers’ organizations, workers’ organizations and women’s organizations to promote the rights of breastfeeding mothers and workers with family responsibilities in formal and informal workplaces. Programme activities based in Naga City, Iloilo City and Zamboanga City follow frameworks laid out in the ILO Workers with Family Responsibilities Convention (No. 156) and the ILO Maternity Protection Convention (No. 183).
