Events and meetings

The ILO Country Office for the Philippines organizes and takes part in a number of events and meetings. Below is a list of upcoming and past events. Any queries should be sent to the office by email.

2013

  1. Training on international labour standards, freedom of association and collective bargaining in the Philippines

    18 - 19 June 2013, Baguio City, Philippines

    With the continuing collaborative efforts of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) to implement the technical cooperation programme resulting from the ILO High Level Mission to the Philippines, DOLE officials and personnel will attend and participate in this area-wide training to be conducted in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

    4 - 5 June 2013, Butuan, Philippines

    With the continuing collaborative efforts of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) to implement the technical cooperation programme resulting from the ILO High Level Mission to the Philippines, DOLE officials and personnel will attend and participate in this area-wide training to be conducted in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

    7 - 8 May 2013, Bohol, Philippines

    With the continuing collaborative efforts of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) to implement the technical cooperation programme resulting from the ILO High Level Mission to the Philippines, DOLE officials and personnel will attend and participate in this area-wide training to be conducted in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

  4. Revisiting Theories on International Migration: A dialogue with Asia

    25 - 26 April 2013, Manila, Philippines

    The international dialogue on migration theories intends to discuss the theoretical dimension of various migration aspects, such as: the determinants of migration; the governance of migration; the political economy of migration; the human rights of migrants; multicultural societies; the reintegration of migrants; the gender perspective in the analysis of migration; and migration transition.

    22 - 23 April 2013, Quezon City, Philippines

    With the continuing collaborative efforts of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) to implement the technical cooperation programme resulting from the ILO High Level Mission to the Philippines, DOLE officials and personnel will attend and participate in this area-wide training to be conducted in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

  6. Improving financial institutions’ microinsurance offering training

    11 - 12 April 2013, Makati City, Philippines

    The ILO will run a pilot course aimed at helping microinsurance service providers to identify ways to improve their products and delivery services to low income households.

  7. Renewing the Labor Movement through Organizing

    18 - 20 March 2013, Occupational Safety and Health Center

    The workshop aims to level-off and unify on key organizing principles and concepts, share experiences organizing and knowledge-sharing on what works given the current context.

  8. Workshop on Negotiating Collective Bargaining Agreements: Capacity Building for Trade Union Negotiators

    18 - 21 March 2013, Occupational Safety and Health Center

    The workshop aims to know the key elements and processes of (win-win) negotiations and be able to go to the negotiation table prepared for the positive or negative results. It also aims for unions to know how to use social dialogue in productive or negative results. It will also level-off and reconcile key international and national principles and concepts of negotiations vis-à-vis law and practice in the private and public sectors. It will also discuss Collective Bargaining law and practice in the Philippines.

  9. Focus group discussion on the Comparative study on competency and equivalency standards between Philippines and selected destination countries

    14 - 19 March 2013, Manila, Philippines

    From 14-19 March 2013, the CGFNS International team will be in the Philippines to conduct interviews and focus group discussions to highlight rich professional context and important qualitative observations to support the interpretation of findings. Partners from government, embassies, academe, health professional organizations and schools will participate in the discussion.

  10. Technical mission towards effective application of the revised Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention in the Philippines

    10 - 16 February 2013, Manila, Philippines

    The ILO initiates technical assistance to the Philippine government through a technical mission on the revised Seafarers' Identity Documents Convention, 2003 (No. 185) to ensure its effective application.

  11. A forum on peace in the context of indigenous peoples participation and consultation/advancing the promotion of the ILO Convention Indigneous and Tribal Peoples (No. 169)

    7 - 8 February 2013, Quezon City, Philippines

    The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), in cooperation with the ILO, will conduct a Second Round Table Discussion on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to discuss Indigneous Peoples Participation in the Mindanao Peace Process and the way forward in the ratification of ILO Convention No. 169. This will also be the ocassion to launch the book entitled "A Comparative Study of the IPRA, ILO Convention No. 169 and UNDRIP."

  12. Training on respecting, protecting and fulfilling of workers’ rights

    15 - 16 January 2013, Quezon City, Philippines

    A series of joint training sessions involving the Philippine National Police, the Department of Labor and Employment and the ILO will be held to promote freedom of association and workers rights by implementing agreed guidelines and adopting a human rights approach.

2012

  1. Livelihood cluster responds to onslaught of Typhoon Pablo

    13 December 2012, Manila, Philippines

    The onslaught of Typhoon Pablo (Bopha) in the provinces of Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental affected the livelihoods of thousands of farmers and their families. Agriculture and agricultural industries, service sectors and infrastructure are among the critical areas for livelihood recovery.

  2. National partners forum on child labour

    10 - 12 December 2012, Manila, Philippines

    Partners in the fight against the worst forms of child labour will gather in the 2nd International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) National Partners Forum to share best practices and lessons learned including emerging challenges in the provinces of Bukidnon, Masbate, Northern Samar and Quezon Province.

  3. National Conference on ILO Convention 151

    28 November 2012, The Rembrandt Hotel

    The International Labour Organization adopted in 1981 the Convention 151 – Labour Relations (Public Service), which concerns protection of the right to organize and procedures for determining conditions of employment in the public service, noting the considerable expansion of public-service activities in many countries and the need for sound labour relations between public authorities and public employees’ organizations.

  4. Individuals and organizations pledge for financial support of child labourers

    27 November 2012, Quezon Province, Philippines

    Strong community involvement is among the highlight features of the ILO-IPEC and DOLE child labour programme called “Taking Children Out of Child Labour through a Functional and Institutionalized Child Labour Monitoring and Integrated Services Delivery System in the Communities.”

  5. Forum on ILO Convention 151 for Senate Legislative Staff and Officers

    26 November 2012, Padilla Room, Senate Office of the Philippines

    ILO Convention 151 seeks to address current problems faced by civil servants. The Convention seeks to create an international legal framework for ensuring the right to organize of civil servants, facilities for unions, procedures for determining terms and conditions for employment, settlement of disputes and civil and political rights.

  6. Workshop on blogging about children

    20 - 21 November 2012, Manila, Philippines

    Child labourers suffer in silence but bloggers and writers have united to give children a voice and to fight the worst forms of child labour through blogs.

  7. Round Table on the design of unemployment insurance (UI) systems: Learning from ASEAN experience

    19 - 20 November 2012, St Giles Hotel, Makati City

    The International Labour Organization Country Office for the Philippines (ILO CO-Manila), the ILO/Japan-ASEAN UI Project, and the Government of the Philippines will organize an experts’ meeting to recall international labour standards relating to unemployment benefits, share experiences of ASEAN’s on-going initiatives to protect and support the unemployed, as well as worldwide practices, on unemployment insurance. The dates for the 'Round Table on the design of unemployment insurance systems: Learning from ASEAN experiences' will be from 19 to 20 November 2012.

  8. SWOT exercises

    17 October 2012, Quezon City, Philippines

    One of the activities of the US State Department funded ILO Freedom of Association Project, is the undertaking of a series of SWOT exercises to examine the institutional needs of our social partners to engage in good faith collective bargaining and meaningful social dialogue.
