Revisiting Theories on International Migration: A Dialogue with Asia

The international dialogue on migration theories intends to discuss the theoretical dimension of various migration aspects, such as: the determinants of migration; the governance of migration; the political economy of migration; the human rights of migrants; multicultural societies; the reintegration of migrants; the gender perspective in the analysis of migration; and migration transition.

The purpose of the discussion is to take stock of the current status of theoretical thinking on those aspects; to indicate the gaps that remain and the methodology to advance in theoretical understanding; and to engage in the discussion the perspective deriving from migration in Asia and from the work of Asian researchers. The ultimate purpose is to contribute to provide better frameworks for migration studies towards a better knowledge of migration in view of more coherent and human rights based migration policies.
