The Philippines is one of the countries with a large number of social media users and online bloggers. The Federation of Free Workers as an implementing partner recognized the recent growth in the netizen population as an opportunity to increase awareness on the Child Labor Knowledge Sharing System and to support the Philippine Program against Child Labour by building a community of bloggers to report on incidence of child labour.
With the need to intensify the fight against child labour through the power of social media and online blog, the ILO through the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) Towards a Child Labour Free Philippines supported the Workshop on blogging about children.
“Blogging, in particular, and the necessary support tools found in the internet have been responsible for helping social movements clarify its message and organize solidarity actions, gatherings, training programmes and even conferences,” said Julius Cainglet, Assistant Vice-President of the FFW and Chairperson of the Knowledge Management Sub-Committee of the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC).
Bloggers and writers from Rappler.Com, Philippine Collegian, Philippine Online Chronicles, Kabataan Party-list, Anakbayan, Plan International, and Pinoy Weekly were among the resource persons of the Workshop on blogging about children.
