Construction and repair of damaged schools

Dignified work: Construction and repair of damaged schools in Sta Fe, Bantayan Island

Providing livelihood opportunities and reconstructing community assets often go hand in hand. Such was the case in Bantayan Island, Northern Cebu during rebuilding efforts after Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).

The International Labour Organization (ILO) worked with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI), the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) and the municipal government of Sta. Fe in repairing damaged school buildings in five different institutions in the municipality. This sub-project involved 81 workers (77 unskilled, 4 nurses), who were all provided with minimum wages, social protection and protective gear so that they worked in safe conditions.
