Press release | Manila, Philippines | 29 January 2016
Understanding Children’s Work, an interagency research programme of the ILO, UNICEF and World Bank, has conducted a study: Understanding child labour and youth employment outcomes in the Philippines. The Philippines interagency report will be launched along with a high-level national policy dialogue on Tuesday, 2 February from 9:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.at the Muralla Ballroom, The Bayleaf Intramuros.

The Philippines Country Report examines the related issues of child labour and youth employment in the context of the Philippines. Guided by observed outcomes in terms of schooling, work activities and status in the labour market, the report considers the economic as well as the social determinants of child labour and youth employment.

The Philippines 2011 Survey on Children (SOC, 2011) and the Philippines 2013 Labour Force Survey (LFS, 2013) are the primary data sources for the report. Data from these surveys permit a comprehensive and nationally-representative picture of the child labour and youth employment situations.

Furio Rosati, Programme Coordinator for Understanding Children’s Work, will present the findings and recommendations.

The policy dialogue will be participated in by top government officials led by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis Baldoz and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary Camilo Gudmalin while international agencies will be represented by Giovanni Soledad of the ILO, Jesus Far of UNICEF and Pablo Acosta from the World Bank Group.

Journalists interested to cover the launch, policy dialogue and participate in the press conference are requested to complete the online media accreditation form on or before Monday, 1 February 2016.
