Emergency employment and sustainable livelihood
Generating Emergency Employment and Recovering Sustainable Livelihoods - Government of Norway
In partnership with the Government of Norway, the International Labour Organization (ILO) responded through emergency employment, local resource-based work, skills training and enterprise development sub-projects in Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda)-affected areas.
The Government of Norway has contributed US$ 5,666,509 to the ILO's “Emergency Employment and Sustainable Livelihood Recovery for Typhoon Haiyan” project to assist with rebuilding the livelihoods of people devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. Directly affected were about 5.6 million workers. Of these, 2.6 million were already in vulnerable employment and living at or near the poverty line even before the super typhoon.
The project contribution will support more than 11,770 persons through emergency employment, local resource-based work, skills development, and enterprise development sub-projects . These beneficiaries are distributed across communities in Leyte (including Tacloban), Samar, Northern Cebu, Bohol, Negros Occidental, and Coron, Palawan.
The Government of Norway also supported the ILO in its role as the co-lead of the Early Recovery and Livelihood Cluster, improving the coordination and collaboration and the effectiveness of emergency employment schemes.
