  1. Media Advisory: ILO to publish the 2012 edition of the World of Work Report

    Manila (ILO News) - The ILO will launch its annual report “World of Work Report 2012: Better Jobs for a Better Economy” on Monday 30 April 2012. The new study examines the performance of different countries since the start of the global crisis through the prism of the quantity and quality of jobs. The new study, along with all associated material and information are embargoed until 07:01 a.m. on Monday, 30 April (Manila time).

    Manila (ILO News) - The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Bank (WB) have created a comprehensive new database that for the first time lists and examines the policy responses taken by 77 countries since the start of the financial and economic crisis.

  3. Young leaders voice concerns on youth employment in the Philippines

    Manila (ILO News) - Young Filipino leaders raised concerns on youth unemployment and migration, access to information, education and training, protection and promotion of workers’ rights in a recent youth employment forum held in Manila. The forum joined by over a hundred youth, was an opportunity to review the draft National Action Plan for Youth and discus the challenges that face many young people today.

  4. Over a hundred young Filipino leaders gather to discuss youth employment crisis

    Manila (ILO News) - Over a hundred youth leaders and representatives met with government agency officials, workers and employers group, academe, and civil society organizations in a youth employment forum dubbed, “Kahit Saan, Kahit Kailan: Marangal na Trabaho para sa Kabataan Matatagpuan (Any Time, Any Where: Decent Work for Young Filipinos).” The forum is part of the International Labour Organization’s declaration of March as youth employment month and of a series of nationwide action planning workshops that seeks to address concerns on youth employment and migration in the Philippines.

    Natural disasters destroy livelihoods but the aftermath also offers opportunities to create jobs and revitalise the economy as there will be high demand for construction and other recovery works. For the last ten years, the ILO has engaged in post-disaster reconstruction in countries in Asia and the Pacific, including China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and beyond. So the Organization was also prepared to help when tropical storm Washi heavily affected villages and major cities in the Philippines last December.   4. Saving for the future, protecting migrant workers and their families

    In the Philippines, migrant workers are covered by insurance but coverage excludes their family members. Often savings are used up when family members suffer from illness or die. Pioneer Life created an Overseas Filipino Workers Savers and Wellness Club to provide access to microinsurance and savings products. The ILO’s Communication officer Minette Rimando reports.
