Introduction:

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a Specialised Agency of the United Nations dealing with labour issues, particularly international labour standards and decent work for all.

The ILO Country Office for the Philippines (CO-Manila) opened in 1970 and through government, employers and workers, was the first country in Asia to participate in a pilot programme on Decent Work.

To build bridges between its standard-setting role and services and programmes for the nation’s people, the ILO runs projects with funding from donors worldwide and partnerships with local actors.

The Senior Driver will play an essential role in the collective energy and creativity of CO-Manila to accomplish much more in less time. S/he will require substantial skills in driving, familiarity of different and various routes in Greater Manila area and nearby provinces as well as consciousness on road security and safety.

Main duties and responsibilities:
Generic duties:

  1. Drive for the Director of the office and other high-ranking officials.
  2. Keep a timetable for arrivals and departures of officials and arrange VIP rooms. Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.
  3. Collect and deliver mail, pouch or documents.
  4. Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs, and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean.
  5. Keep records of use of vehicle, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing and other services.
  6. Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident.
  7. Perform other miscellaneous office support functions such as messenger services, making photocopies or sending faxes.
  8. Perform other related duties as required.
Specific Duties:
  1. Complies strictly to the Minimum Operating Security Standard (MOSS) required for travel and office vehicles:
    • Office vehicles are with functioning emergency communication equipment, i.e., VHF radio, satellite phone, etc.
    • Office vehicles are equipped with the required emergency tools, i.e., spare tire, basic tools, first aid kit, etc.
    • Communicating to UN Radio room prior to commencing travel, after reaching the destination, at checkpoints and if changing route (if necessary).
    • Implement Standard Security Operating Procedures for all travels.
  2. Participate in the weekly radio check conducted by the UN Radio room.
  3. Monitor the schedule of overall maintenance of ILO official vehicles.
  4. Ensure timely renewal of national driver’s license, office vehicle registration and corresponding insurance.
Qualifications requirements:

Education – Primary education, valid driver’s license, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills minor vehicle repair.

Experience – Four year’s work experience as a driver with a safe driving record.

Languages – Good command of English (oral and written)

  • A high level of driving and vehicle repair and maintenance skills.
  • Proven ability to keep accurate records of the use of vehicle.
  • Proven ability to drive safely in local traffic conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to undertake minor vehicle repair.
  • Ability to lift heavy mail bags and boxes.
  • Ability to take initiatives.
  • Discretion.
  • Ability to observe courtesies.

Remuneration:

General Staff – Level 3 of the UN common remuneration system.
