Communication strategies workshop

ILO-CARING Gold Mining Project Communication Strategies Workshop

Key partners of the ILO-CARING Gold Mining Project will meet to discuss and look into potential information and communication strategies to contribute to the improvement of the knowledge, attitude and practices of the Project's target ASGM populations and stakeholders. Inputs from this consultation meeting and workshop will be used substantially in developing the Project's Strategic Communication and Advocacy Plan.

The ILO-CARING Gold Mining Project, supported by the United States Department of Labor (USDOL) is developing an overarching Strategic Communication and Advocacy Plan to help realize the Project's objectives and outcomes. The Project is being piloted in the municipalities of Labo and Paracale in Camarines Norte, and in T'boli in South Cotabato. The Project's overall objective is to contribute to: (a) enhance laws, policies, and action plans to address labour and working conditions in artisanal small-scale gold mining (ASGM), and ensure their enforcement and/or implementation; (b) improving access of vulnerable households living in ASGM communities to relevant social protection and livelihood programmes; and (c) developing and implementing mechanisms to increase monitoring of child labour and working conditions in gold mining supply chains, particularly ASGM.

The proposed Plan will set clear communication goals and objectives to contribute to raise awareness on the Project, as well as on ASGM; and disseminate good practices on child labour elimination, improvements on working conditions, and advocate for social protection and livelihood support programmes to ASGM households and communities.

Recognizing the importance of involving the Project's key partners and stakeholders in the communication planning process, the Consultation Meeting and Communication Planning Workshop will be conducted on 11 February 2019 in Quezon City. The meeting and workshop will look into potential information and communication strategies to improve the knowledge, attitude and practices of the Project's populations and stakeholders. It will also be a platform for the discussion of issues and concerns on the ground that directly impact on Project delivery, and explore how these can be addressed. Inputs from this meeting and workshop will be used substantially in developing the Project's Strategic Communication and Advocacy Plan, particularly in coming up with context-appropriate and audience-specific communication interventions and advocacy programmes.
